"Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
   and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
   Restorer of Streets with Dwellings." Isaiah 58:12

Our Story

For one special year in South Africa, the Tompkins family joined the Best family to serve in high schools, communities and universities in Cape Town. During this time, we learned mission is not about what we taught others about God, it’s what God taught us through others on the mission field.  One concept from South Africa is the heart of BPRC, "batho pele". Batho Pele is a Southern Sotho phrase meaning, "people first". This idea is conceptualized by I Corinthians 12:26, " If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it."

As our families returned from overseas mission work, the Tompkins in 2016 and the Best in 2021, our hearts began to see that communities were hurting in four key areas, families, schools, churches and businesses. Together we committed to empowering underserved communities nationwide. BPRC, a product of our extensive work with diverse teams in ministry, aims to uplift and  invest in under resourced areas in Houston, TX. We are Batho Pele Resource Center.
